In like sin

Mon Jan 23, 2006, 8:29 PM
Phew - I was accepted into The Ohio State University Design Department, in the visual communications major. I've been attending Ohio State for two years now, but to begin the core design curriculum you must be accepted into the design department. They had 66 applicants to VC this year and 18 were accepted.

The entrance exam consisted of a 5 week long project which included problem statements, essays, and a portfolio. You are only allowed applying twice, so this was my last shot...and damn am I excited that I got in. Now it's time to buckle down and crank out some amazing design work over the next few years.

Vector Art?

Sun Jan 8, 2006, 7:26 AM
People tend to think that vector art is a style of artwork, and that if they use a raster based program to create something that looks like the stereotypical vector piece that it is a "fake vector" or "vexel".

Vector is a medium - like pencil, clay, or PIXELS.

I'm going to repeat that.

Vector is a medium - like pencil, clay, or PIXELS.

Say it to yourself aloud a few times before you proceed.

Vector art can take on any form that one so chooses. There is no "vector style."

So I dare you...try something in Illustrator that is innovative. And if you consider yourself a profecient level user of Adobe Illustrator because you've mastered the pen tool, keep learning.

/rant off.

I'm too angry and bitter, as well as busy with school, to post any more work on this lovely social networking site.

Busy with school. Justification for lack of participation, something catchy about this I-O-N sensation. I think I need a vacation. Yep.

Jake...

Fri Oct 7, 2005, 5:07 PM
A friend of mine ended his life late Tuesday night. I woke up to a text message that said "Jake blew his f***** head off...he's dead man."

I called to make sure it was not some sort of sick joke, unfortunately, it was not.

The funeral is this weekend...I made [link]

for him. I promised him over the summer that I would draw this, and the rough draft I sketched out got lost when my hard drive crashed. So here's the final version, which I will be giving to his parents.

Stay close to your friends. Enjoy their lives and your own.

Lame Duck

My motherboard on my home desktop blew the hell up - so that explains my less than spectacular activity here at the lovely DA.

Fortunately, I'm on a business trip and our hotel in the middle of anywheretown, usa somehow managed to get a wireless access point...so for the next three days I can actually enduldge in the loveliness that is deviantArt after a long hard day of Data Collection...

Last week I had a 15 hour work day - I hope that doesn't happen while I'm here. At least I'll be in-the-money for about 5 minutes before school starts back up.

Blargh.
